A window claim is built opening by opening. The relevant thermal value is normally for the complete unit, while solar factor, orientation, frame fraction and measured dimensions explain why two visually similar replacements do not produce the same result. Capture the old frame and glazing before removal, including shutter boxes where relevant. RES070 and TER060 should be checked against the current catalogue and official PDF rather than treated as automatic labels for any joinery order.
Define exactly which openings RES070 or TER060 cover
Build a unique opening identifier from building, floor, room and elevation. Separate windows from glazed doors, curtain wall and elements outside the chosen sheet. The replacement schedule should record quantity and dimensions for each identifier so repeated standard sizes do not hide omitted or duplicated units. Use the opening register as the single reference for surveys, quotations, delivery records, photographs and the final calculation.
Read the current RES070 or TER060 scope for building use, previous condition, new performance and required evidence. A title mentioning windows does not settle whether partial replacement, a particular frame type or a mixed-use building qualifies. Record the catalogue version used when the eligibility decision was made. Mixed frame families or building uses should remain on separate eligibility rows until the applicable scope is confirmed.
Measure the old window before the skip leaves
Measure clear opening, overall frame or another dimension exactly as required, and state the convention. Width times height from a quotation can diverge from the eligible glazed element after reveals and fixed panels are considered. Retain annotated photographs with a tape or survey output for representative and exceptional sizes. Apply one documented dimension convention throughout and flag arches, sidelights and composite openings for individual treatment.
The removed assembly needs evidence of frame material, glazing build-up, pane spacing, coatings and any shutter box treatment relevant to the method. If no reliable declaration survives, use only an allowed default and explain why. Do not infer old performance merely because the building was completed in a particular decade. Photograph distinctive old glazing and frame details before demolition because they cannot be reconstructed reliably from the replacement unit.
Distinguish Uw, glazing Ug and solar factor g
Uw is the transmittance of the complete window; Ug concerns glazing and Uf the frame. Substituting the lower Ug value for Uw overstates performance. The solar factor g describes admitted solar energy and must correspond to the specified glazing, not a different coating or centre-pane sample. Check that whole-window declarations cover the installed dimensions and configuration rather than only a favourable standard test size.
Orientation changes useful solar gains and summer exposure. Keep north, south, east and west areas separate where the formula does. If external shading, blinds or glass type also changes, follow the sheet treatment and avoid assigning the same gain reduction to both window replacement and a separate control measure. Keep orientation and shading inputs at opening level when the authorised formula distinguishes their solar contribution.
Connect the schedule to invoices and installed units
The product declaration, CE information where applicable, manufacturer calculation and order confirmation should identify the same composition. A family certificate covering many sizes may require size rules. Tie each declared Uw and g value to the installed schedule instead of attaching an unrelated brochure page. Reconcile declarations against exact product references, spacer type, pane build-up and frame option on the order acknowledgement.
Photograph old and new units from inside and outside with their opening identifier. Include frame labels, spacer markings and installation stages before trims conceal anchors or perimeter insulation. Reconcile delivery quantities, invoice lines and completed openings, documenting breakages and units retained. An exception log should account for damaged deliveries, retained openings and site substitutions before quantities are annualised.
Check installation quality and prevent area inflation
Poor perimeter sealing can create infiltration and condensation despite an excellent declared Uw. Inspect tapes, membranes, sill drainage, thermal continuity and adjustment of hardware. The energy estimate should maintain equivalent conditioned area and use; closing a room or reducing ventilation is not a window saving. Installation inspection should also record operability and drainage so improved thermal values do not conceal a defective assembly.
Run arithmetic checks on areas, decimal separators and units before submission. The resulting annual final-energy figure remains provisional until review under the live PDF and annexes. Neither technical correspondence nor a supplier quotation guarantees CAE issuance, accepted volume or any private payment. The reference codes for this review are RES070 and TER060. Independent arithmetic review should sample individual openings as well as checking portfolio totals and decimal conventions.
